Everybody thinks that Greece is a popular destination for weddings on islands or somewhere by the sea. However, Greece has another side. Another beautiful, yet more rough one. And that beauty lies near the mountains.

Olga and Stathis decided to get married last July in Papigo, near Ioannina. Papigo consists of two villages: Megalo Papigo and Mikro Papigo, big and small Papigo. The area and the neighbouring Vikos Gorge attracts many hikers and mountaineers from around the world. The Vikos Gorge is the largest canyon in Greece and (disputably) in all of Europe. Although Papigo is not a popular summer destination, it was, however, a significant one for the couple. They planned their first trip as a couple there, they celebrated many of their anniversaries there, but, most importantly, that is the place where Stathis asked Olga to marry him.

Since the wedding was being held at such a rustic place, the couple wanted to keep it traditional, yet elegant. Therefore, we chose a gold and dark green color palette and decided to use Greek quotes and sayings. The wedding was small, with around 100 guests, who all arrived in Papigo, the day before the wedding. Everybody was welcomed in their rooms with a linen hand-painted bag full of traditional treats, such as local herbs and desserts. The day of the wedding, the bride and groom started getting ready in their hotels, a few hours before the ceremony. The groom, an elegant and sophisticated young man, had his friends over, while he was getting ready, enjoying a few sips of Macallan, while his friends were shaving him. His suit was oh so elegant and fine, that gave him the style of a vintage aviator. In the same time, the bride, was relaxing drinking champagne with her girlfriends, while the hair and make up experts were doing their magic. She chose a very simple, yet elegant silk white tailor made wedding dress, that made her look like a fairy in the mountains. Stathis was waiting for her at the entrance of the church in Mikro Papigo, while Olga was being escorted by her father, along with traditional local music players. It was like a dream. The scenery was magical.

After the ceremony, all the guests arrived at Megalo Papigo. They all found their seats by their place cards on the wooden seating chart by the entrance. They enjoyed their welcome traditional desserts and were all touched by the cake topper on the white and gold wedding cake, saying “Me & You”.

The garden of the venue was set with long wooden tables and wooden chairs, garlands of green and white flowers and touches of gold. After the sun went down, all the lights went on and the place looked like a summer rustic feast! Guests were pleasantly surprised by all the extra favors, such as the anti-mosquito repellents, the sparklers for the first dance, the wish cards and others. Party music and an open cocktail bar labeled in Greek, meaning “Let’s Dance”, kept the party going until early in the morning.

“If I were to live a thousand years, I would belong to you for all of them. If we were to live a thousand lives, I would want to make you mine in each one.”
